Anting - Anting

The Cultural Center of the Philippines Exhibition | Retablo | Our Guest book

Anting Anting, a group of artists based in Cavite, holds a collective exhibition from June 13 to July 31, 2002 at the Main Gallery of the Cultural Center of the Philippines. It centers on the concept of the anting anting (talisman) of Filipino folk culture, which is viewed as a source of spell and potency in everyday life. Interpreted in a wide range of expressions, from painting to performance, the exhibition seeks to reflect on and challenge how people come to terms with belief and express it in many ways. At a time when images flood society and faith stands on unstable ground, the exhibition takes a pause and ponders the very foundation of the power of appearance and the charm that lies beneath.
